Coursera’s ‘Liderazgo para el Siglo XXI: proyecto final’ is not just another theoretical leadership course; it’s a hands-on, action-oriented journey designed to equip you with the practical tools to tackle your own leadership challenges. As the capstone to the ‘Effective Leadership for the 21st Century’ specialization, this course dives deep into applying diagnostic and action tools to a personal leadership project.

The course is structured to guide you through a cyclical process of diagnosis, experimentation, and evaluation. You’ll learn to identify a personal leadership challenge and then apply concrete tools to design and implement experiments. A key focus is understanding how failure and resilience are not setbacks, but rather crucial elements for growth and advancement in your leadership endeavors.

The syllabus is thoughtfully laid out across four modules. The first module sets the stage, introducing transversal tools for conscious intervention in human systems and fostering transformation, featuring insights from guest filmmaker MarĂa Gamboa and course professor Maite Careaga.

The second module, ‘Me preparo para ejercer liderazgo’ (I prepare to exercise leadership), encourages a shift in perspective. It prompts you to examine the narratives you hold about your leadership challenge, the people involved, and potential obstacles. You’ll be challenged to question the effectiveness of these stories and explore how to design experiments to gather more information and drive progress.

‘Avanzo por ensayo y error’ (I advance through trial and error) is the third module, where the rubber meets the road. Here, you’ll put your designed interventions into practice, experimenting with new approaches and learning from the outcomes. This module emphasizes the iterative nature of leadership development.

Finally, ‘Aprendo y me vuelvo resiliente’ (I learn and become resilient) brings the course to a close. This module focuses on reflecting on your experiences, processing any setbacks, and cultivating resilience. You’ll become more aware of your narratives around failure and learn to edit them to better navigate difficulties, preparing you for new cycles of diagnosis and action. Upon completion, you’ll be adept at using diagnostic and action tools for your own leadership projects and prepared to embrace the continuous learning inherent in effective leadership.
