The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is a highly respected certification in the cybersecurity industry, signifying a deep understanding of information security principles and practices. If you’re aiming to achieve this prestigious credential, finding the right training is crucial. I recently completed the ‘CISSP Certification: Domains 1, 2, 3 & 4 Video Training-2021’ course on Udemy, and I’m excited to share my review and recommendation.

This course, taught by an instructor with over 18 years of experience, offers a thorough breakdown of the first four critical domains of the CISSP exam: Security and Risk Management, Asset Security, Security Engineering, and Communication and Network Security. The instructor excels at translating complex CISSP training requirements into relatable, real-world examples, which is invaluable for understanding the practical application of these concepts.

Each domain is meticulously covered, with Domain 1 (Security and Risk Management) being particularly robust. It delves into governance principles, compliance requirements, legal and regulatory issues, professional ethics, business continuity, and risk management concepts, including threat modeling and supply chain risks. The course also emphasizes the importance of security awareness and training programs.

Domain 2 focuses on Asset Security, covering data classification, ownership, privacy protection, data remanence, and asset retention. It clearly explains how to determine and implement appropriate data security controls.

Domain 3, Security Engineering, is a deep dive into secure design principles, various security models, and the assessment and mitigation of vulnerabilities across a wide range of systems, from client-based to IoT and cloud environments. The application of cryptographic methods, including PKI and key management, is also thoroughly explained, along with site and facility security implementation.

Finally, Domain 4, Communication and Network Security, explores secure network architectures, focusing on OSI and TCP/IP models, IP networking, and the implications of various network protocols. It covers secure network components, hardware, transmission media, network access control, and endpoint security, as well as implementing secure communication channels for voice, data, and remote access.

What sets this course apart is its practical approach. The instructor doesn’t just present information; they provide context and real-world scenarios that help solidify understanding. The inclusion of practice questions for each domain is a significant bonus, allowing you to test your knowledge as you progress.

While the course material is excellent, it’s important to remember the instructor’s advice: CISSP requires significant experience and knowledge. This course is a powerful tool to build that knowledge base, but it should be complemented with other study materials and hands-on experience. The course covers the exam objectives up to the April 2021 curriculum, which is still highly relevant.

For anyone serious about passing the CISSP exam, especially those looking to build a strong foundation in the initial domains, I highly recommend this Udemy course. It’s an investment that pays off by providing clear, practical, and experience-driven insights into the core concepts of information security management.
