In June 2021, Coursera launched an intriguing course entitled ‘Artificial Creativity’. This course delves into the fascinating intersection of artificial intelligence and creativity, offering a unique perspective from the world of design. As someone who has always been passionate about both technology and art, I was excited to enroll and explore what this course had to offer.

I found this approach to be incredibly engaging, sparking thoughts about human creativity and its comparison to AI-generated creation.

Here, students dive into the multidisciplinary roots of AI in creativity, exploring important concepts such as the Turing Test and intelligence while experimenting with different versions of GPT-2. In ‘Advanced Theories and Techniques Behind Artificial Creativity: Part I’, learners are introduced to the symbolic approach to AI. Exploring the subsymbolic approach in ‘How to Make Things Creative II’ opens up new pathways for understanding AI’s role in the creative process. Towards the end, engaging with concepts of computational creativity and developing a LoFi prototype reinforces the practical applications of the theoretical knowledge gained.
